About

I’ve built a number of Intranet’s while working at Rightpoint and as lame as that sounds, I’m actually a big fan of enterprise, internal systems. In fact, I’ve won a couple of extremely unglamorous awards from Ragen and Neilson Norman Group for previous intranet work. This digital workspace we created for Grant Thornton got a 2020 honorable mention (my work with Loblaw, won top 10 in 2020 💅🏾). Now that I’ve stroked my own ego, let’s dig into it.

Let's Begin GT’s intranet, Canvas, is a personalized, targeted and relevant view of information for GT employees that integrates multiple systems into one. Grant Thornton had a simple goal; to give every employee at every level access to more information about themselves, Grant Thornton company initiatives and managing their day-to-day work. Built in Sharepoint Modern, we were tasked with migrating existing content from several internal systems, create a design system resembling Grant Thornton's branding through Sharepoint Modern's Fabric UI and update their taxonomy and information architecture to create a more robust search experience, document management system and collaboration tool.

The MVP of this intranet was so successful that we ended up creating more. Our phase two approach included customizable site collections that employees can use to search for insights, business units and documentation from other employees across the organization. We created completely custom employee profiles and robust private dashboards for individual metrics, goals and career information tailored to each individual. And then we integrated it all with Microsoft teams.💥
